Tenth Anniversary Progressive Leadership Awards to honor those who have helped build our movement and moved us closer to comprehensive health care reform.

USAction will celebrate its tenth anniversary at its annual Progressive Leadership Awards Gala from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 on the top floor of the National Press Club.

The group will honor Gara LaMarche, President and CEO of Atlantic Philanthropies, which has helped fund Health Care for America Now; Rob Stein, founder of the Democracy Alliance and Steven Kazan, Managing Partner of Kazan, McClain, Lyons, Greenwood & Harvey PLC.

Also being honored are four grassroots nominees who have been on the front lines of the battle for health care reform: Margarida Jorge, National Field Director for Health Care for America Now; Ivette Luna, Lead Organizer for Ocean State Action; Maru Mora Villalpando, Lead Organizer for Washington Community Action Network and Binghamton City Council Member Lea Webb, Community Organizer for Citizen Action of New York.

USAction and its affiliates and partners in 28 states are part of Health Care for America Now, the nation’s largest health care reform campaign. Also on Tuesday, as part of our signature campaign this year, USAction affiliates will be participating in “Big Insurance: Sick Of It” events across the country to highlight private health insurance industry abuses and the need for reform.
