This year’s Council on Foundations conference, titled “Philanthropy’s Vision: A Leadership Summit,” took place May 4-7, 2008 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
At the Monday, May 5 luncheon plenary, “Philanthropic Partnership: Improving the lives of our Fellow-citizens,” Mary Robinson, Anthony Romero, Kumi Naidoo, Sherece West, and Gara LaMarche discussed the challenges and triumphs of their work with human rights issues.

Robinson, the former president of Ireland and former United Nations high commissioner for human rights, is the president of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative. LaMarche is president and CEO of The Atlantic Philanthropies. Anthony Romero is executive director of the ACLU. Sherece West is president and CEO of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.
