EUR48 MILLION ‘Centre of Excellence for Successful Ageing’ has been unveiled at St. James’s Hospital by the Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney. The facility will combine prevention and clinical care, research and teaching in the same location to explore novel approaches to the healthcare of older people.

It will provide early diagnostic and rapid access ambulatory care clinics and use modern information technology systems to promote wellness and independent living in the community.

It is envisaged that the facility will become a leader in gerontology at both national and international levels.

The capital cost is being co-funded by the Department of Health and Children and Atlantic Philanthropies.
