The Health Ministry, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), launched a campaign, entitled Save lives, make hospitals safe in emergencies, on April 7 in response to the World Health Day.

Every year, Vietnam is regularly hit by floods and storms, especially during the July-October period.

In 2008, natural disasters damaged 157 health facilities nationwide.

WHO underscored the importance of investing in health infrastructure that can withstand hazards and serve people in immediate need. It also urged
health facilities to implement systems to respond to internal emergencies, such as fires, and ensure the community of care.

Health staff should be regularly trained in order to give best response in emergencies, it also said.
