Atlantic Philanthropies Awards $3.5 Million for Vietnamese Hospital Expansion

Original Source Atlantic Philanthropies has awarded $3.5 million for the construction of a state-of-the-art facility to house the departments of oncology and tropical diseases at Da Nang Hospital in Vietnam, the Vietnam News Service reports. The project will be implemented by the California-based East Meets West Foundation. When the facility is completed, the tropical medical department will serve patients infected by avian influenza and other diseases such as SARS, viral hepatitis, and AIDS, while the oncology department will provide space for radio-therapy equipment and up to eighty beds to support chemotherapy services. The building also will contain laboratory facilities designed to strengthen the region’s capacity to respond to an epidemic. Since 1998, the partnership between Atlantic Philanthropies and the East Meets West Foundation has provided health and higher education infrastructure for several cities and provinces in Vietnam, including Da Nang, Hue, and Quang Tri Province.
