Edith Asibey Appointed Chief Communications Officer at The Atlantic Philanthropies

Edith Asibey has been appointed Chief Communications Officer at The Atlantic Philanthropies. She joined Atlantic as a Communications Executive in October 2009. 

In this new role, Ms. Asibey is responsible for developing and managing the foundation’s global communication strategy.  She counsels senior leadership and program staff on a broad range of strategic communications and media issues and opportunities; oversees foundation communications, media relations, online communications and public events held in Atlantic’s convening space in New York.

With more than 15 years of experience in foundation communications, I am confident that Edith will be an even greater asset to Atlantic as she assumes this leadership role for our final decade.”

Ms. Asibey has over 15 years of experience managing domestic and international communications campaigns to mobilize constituencies and influence policies on global and local issues, including education, health and the environment.  Throughout her career, she has helped many nonprofits and foundations to be more strategic in how they use communication, advocacy and evaluation to achieve their goals.  Prior to joining Atlantic, she was President of Asibey Consulting, a strategic communication and advocacy firm that worked with several foundation and nonprofit clients, and developed two popular guides: Are We There Yet? A Communications Evaluation Guide and Continuous Progress.   

Earlier in her career, Ms. Asibey was the Chief Program Officer and Acting President at NetAid (currently part of the international humanitarian group Mercy Corps) in New York.  She also worked as the Head of Communication for the AVINA Foundation, an international grantmaker based in Miami, and as the Lead Environment Officer for USAID in Paraguay. 

Ms. Asibey has published numerous articles on communication and advocacy effectiveness.  She serves on the Board of Directors of The Communications Network, an organization dedicated to advancing the strategic practice of communications in philanthropy.

She earned a Master of Arts in Media Studies from Stanford University in California and undergraduate degrees in Biology and in Education from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
