Original Source Nonprofits across most sectors saw a decline in revenue and in the number of donors in the first three months of 2008, a new report says. Revenue at nonprofits surveyed fell 1.8 percent in the first three months of 2008, compared to the same period in 2007, the first decline in 2_ years, while the number of donors fell four percent, continuing the slide since the Gulf Coast hurricanes in fall 2005. Revenue per donor, however, grew 2.1 percent in the first quarter, compared to the same period a year earlier, says the Index of National Fundraising Performance by Target Analytics, a subsidiary of Blackbaud. The decline in the number of donors, which was not as widespread as in the previous year, was the result at most organizations of a drop of 2.3 percent in the acquisition of new donors. The first three months of any year are often the slowest period of giving for many groups, the report says, so first-quarter results may not be fully representative of expected totals for the year.
