Nobayeni Dladla

Nobayeni Dladla is the Country Director for South Africa at The Atlantic Philanthropies.  She is based in Johannesburg. 

In this role, Ms. Dladla leverages Atlantic’s activities and investments to maximise the foundation’s impact and contribution to South Africa.  She oversees grantmaking through Atlantic’s Reconciliation & Human Rights and Population Health Programmes, and leads the South African staff in the development of cross-programme and other strategies and grants.  Ms. Dladla monitors the political, social and economic climate and its potential impact on the foundation’s grantmaking within the country, and she serves as liaison to government, local and international donors, and other key partners. 

Prior to joining Atlantic in 2010, Ms. Dladla served as Health Attaché of the South African Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. She also was Health Attaché to the United States and Canada, based at the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 2002-2008. In these positions, she engaged with policymakers at all levels of government representing the health needs and interests of her country.  Ms. Dladla had previously served as the Head of the Social Sector within the Policy Coordination Unit in the Presidency of South Africa for two years, and as the Director of Nutrition for the Department of Health in South Africa. 

Ms. Dladla has presented papers at many national and international meetings and conferences, including the World Health Organization. She participated in an UNAIDS Working Group to develop the “Agenda for Accelerated Country Action for Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV,” formerly served on the Committee of Inquiry on Comprehensive Social Security and the South Africa Health Professional Board on Dietetics.

She earned a M.A. in social policy and health policy at the University of Massachusetts, and a B.A. in sociology and public administration from the National University of Lesotho in South Africa.
