Pensioners Speak for Themselves at Northern Ireland “Pensioners Parliament”

Resource type: Video

Age Sector Platform |

‘The best thing probably about the Pensioners Parliament is that it is from the bottom up, from the people on the ground.’
– Nixon Armstrong, County Armagh MPP (Member of the Pensioners Parliament)

Almost 200 pensioners attended the 2013 Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament in Belfast, discussing issues such as health and social care, community safety, making ends meet and age discrimination.

This video includes footage from the Parliament and interviews with Parliament organisers and MPPs (Members of the Pensioners Parliament) on the most significant issues of concern to older people.

The annual Northern Ireland Pensioners Parliament, launched in 2011, allows older people from across Northern Ireland to have their say on the issues that matter to them.

2013 marks the third year of the Parliament, which is organised by Age Sector Platform.
