Pensioners’ Parliament: Strengthening Voice in Northern Ireland

Resource type: Video

Age Sector Platform |

Between 2005 and 2035, the proportion of Northern Ireland’s population of citizens older than 65 is expected to double. As a result, campaigning for policies that support healthy ageing and that push government to be responsive to the needs of older people is vital.

The Northern Ireland Pensioners’ Parliament, launched by Age Sector Platform in 2011, allows older people from across Northern Ireland to have their say on the issues that matter to them.

Each year, elected representatives from across the community participate in a two-day regional parliament, debating policies with government and with lawmakers and defining older people’s campaign issues for the year ahead.
