SCHIP Legislation Passed

Resource type: News

The Atlantic Philanthropies |

Atlantic congratulates its grantees and all others who advocated for the successful passage of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) legislation, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama on February, 4. SCHIP provides low-cost or free health care for children in families that earn modest incomes. Atlantic is proud to have supported several organizations who worked tirelessly to get this bill passed and signed. Special congratulations to all who worked to ensure that SCHIP would provide health care coverage to the children of legal immigrants. This was a very important victory for disadvantaged children and their families across the U.S. and a key step towards national healthcare reform.

The next step is to achieve affordable, quality health care for all in the United States in 2009. If you want to get involved, please join our grantee Health Care for America Now! (HCAN) as it works to pass progressive federal health reform legislation this year.
