BERMUDA, October 3, 2005 Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot has been appointed as a member of The Atlantic Foundation’s Board of Directors, The Atlantic Philanthropies announced today. The Atlantic Foundation is the largest charitable fund within The Atlantic Philanthropies. Dr. Lawrence-Lightfoot, a sociologist, is the Emily Hargroves Fisher Professor of Education at Harvard University and the author of eight books, including The Essential Conversation: What Parents and Teachers Can Learn From Each Other, Respect: An Exploration, and Balm In Gilead: Journey of a Healer. The Atlantic Philanthropies are a group of Bermuda-based charitable foundations whose grant investments are focused internationally in four programme fields: Ageing, Disadvantaged Children and Youth, Population Health and Reconciliation and Human Rights.
