Case Study: When Aims & Objectives Rhyme: How Two of Ireland’s Largest Foundations Found Common Ground

Tony Proscio

20 December 2011

A rare and successful collaboration between two foundations in the Republic of Ireland offers potential lessons to other funders, according to a case study by Tony Proscio. The report describes a fruitful partnership between The Atlantic Philanthropies and The One Foundation over many years despite differences in the two funders’ size, age and approach to grantmaking. A particular focus of the report is on how joint grantmaking by the two foundations works in practice, a subject that typically receives little attention in studies on philanthropic collaboration. The report also outlines six lessons from the collaboration that could help other funders considering similar partnerships.

Atlantic and The One Foundation commissioned this report.
