Comments and Moderation
The Atlantic Philanthropies enable comments on select content throughout our Web site as a way to spark discussion and debate about our work, and to solicit feedback from readers. Commenters are not necessarily affiliated with The Atlantic Philanthropies, and comments on the site do not reflect the views, opinions or positions of Atlantic, our grantees or other companies or organisations to which we may link. We welcome dissenting views and opinions, provided they are respectful and contribute to a civil discussion.
Comment Policy
The policies below are applicable to the Web site located at www.atlanticphilanthropies.org. We also make every effort to enforce this policy on social networking sites such as Facebook, where we maintain profiles. The Atlantic Philanthropies never censor based on political or ideological points of view. But we do not permit comments that include any of the following transgressions:
- Abusive, off-topic or foul language
- Racist, sexist, homophobic and other slurs or hateful language
- Ad hominem attacks
- Posts with the explicit intention of provoking other commenters or the staff at The Atlantic Philanthropies
- SHOUTING
- Thread spamming (you've posted this same comment elsewhere on the site)
- Solicitations and/or advertising for commercial undertakings, personal blogs and Web sites
- Content that may infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of others or other applicable laws or regulations
While most comments will be posted if they are not in violation of the aforementioned transgressions, moderation is subjective and we reserve the right to remove any comment.
Moderation
We review all comments before posting. If your comment does not appear, it may be pending approval. This takes time, as Atlantic has limited staff and capacity to approve comments immediately. We appreciate your patience and ask that you refrain from posting the same comment repeatedly. Your comment may also not appear because it has violated the policy above. You will not be notified if this is the case.
Blocking
We block select comments if they violate the Comment Policy above. In addition, Atlantic may find it necessary to ban a commenter’s IP address. This means the ban of an abusive commenter from commenting on the site in the future, even if the later comments are not abusive. We would ban an IP because it is extremely time consuming to individually delete comments written by someone with a pattern of abuse.
Flagging
If there is a comment that you believe is abusive, insulting or in violation of our policy, we encourage you to contact us. You can email feedback@atlanticphilanthropies.org.
Third-Party Content
The Atlantic Philanthropies may also post select articles or content from news organisations or our grantees. Grantees of The Atlantic Philanthropies may also be permitted to submit content for publication on atlanticphilanthropies.org. We identify all articles and content re-posted from other sites as such, and include a link back to the original source.
Please note that these items are posted because we believe they will be of interest to the wider Atlantic community. Our publication of such material does not constitute an endorsement of the content by Atlantic or our grantees or a verification of facts or claims in third-party-contributed material. The Atlantic Philanthropies is not responsible for any comments posted at the original article source.
By commenting on our Web site, you are accepting the practices described above in our Comment Policy, and our Privacy and Terms of Use Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Comment Policy or the Privacy and Terms of Use Policy, please do not use or comment on the Web site.
