Philip Coates
Philip Coates is the Chief Investment Officer of The Atlantic Philanthropies, with responsibility for managing the endowment. He is based in the London office.
Mr. Coates works with the Board’s Investment Committee and the Chief Executive Officer in formulating Atlantic’s Investment Policy. Mr. Coates is then responsible for implementing the Investment Policy, including the selection of investment managers. He has particular expertise in hedge fund investments, to which Atlantic has a high allocation.
He joined the foundation as an Investment Analyst in 1998, became an Investment Officer in 2000, the Deputy Chief Investment Officer in 2004 and was promoted to his current position in 2005.
Prior to joining Atlantic, Mr. Coates worked as an Analyst for Deutsche Bank for two years.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh and a Masters in finance with distinction from London Business School.
