Brian F. Hofland is the Director of the Ageing Programme at The Atlantic Philanthropies. This grantmaking programme works actively to bring about lasting changes in the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable older adults in Bermuda, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the United States.
Prior to joining Atlantic in 2001, Mr. Hofland was Senior Vice President at the Retirement Research Foundation in Chicago, where his work focused on strategic grantmaking responses to long-term care, housing and end-of-life-care issues for older adults. Previously he served as Director of the Fellowship Program in Applied Gerontology at the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and was a National Institute of Mental Health Predoctoral Fellow.
From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Hofland served as the first President of Grantmakers in Aging, the US affinity group of foundations interested in ageing issues.
He also has served as Chair of the Social Research, Policy and Practice section of GSA and on the board of the American Society on Aging. He was a delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging and the 2005 White House Conference on Aging.
Mr. Hofland received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University.
