Former Programmes

Atlantic hasn’t always concentrated on our four current programme areas. When we initially opened our doors in 1982, we focused for many years on the following programmes: Higher Education, Pre-collegiate Education & Youth Development, and the Nonprofit Sector.

  • Through our Higher Education Programme, we worked with grantees to strengthen the capacity of institutions of higher education to facilitate research, generate knowledge and provide opportunities for students regardless of their background.
  • Through our Pre-collegiate & Youth Development Programme, we funded organisations that supported more effective learning, and increased community service and volunteerism among young people, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, religion or socioeconomic situation.
  • Through our Nonprofit Sector Programme, we supported the creation of a vibrant nonprofit sector characterised by high-quality institutions and leaders.

At various times during these programmes, we were active in the United Kingdom, Central Europe and the Middle East, as well as the seven regions where we continue to award grants.

Although we have now left these original programme areas, we are proud of the impressive accomplishments of the organisations we supported over the years.

As we initiated the change in our philanthropic focus in 2004, we honoured in full all previous grant commitments authorised by our Board. In Viet Nam, where we were once significantly involved in higher-education efforts, we continue to make a small number of exit grants to complete the important work begun by our grantees.
